I investigate from neuroscience, psychology and literary perspectives how narratives help individuals make sense of the world: how do we humans rely on stories — whether we are writing them, our bodies are telling them, or the media is shaping them — as a means of attributing meaning to experiences and events? I am currently drawing on this multidisciplinary research on narrative processes and practices in the context of social movement spaces, to support pro-democracy political organisers aiming to combat systems of authoritarianism. I have worked with IRIS researching the neural, psychological and social contexts of narrative processes, and with The Horizons Project on designing content for international pro-democracy learning cohorts.
